The Fourth of July is probably the most iconic holiday that we celebrate here in America. After all, who wouldn’t want to celebrate the birth of our amazing country? While they may not have celebrated in the same way that we do now, our Founding Fathers would be thrilled to know that we still have the same love for our country as they did all the way back in 1776.
Chicago is one of the best cities in the world. Now, we may be a little biased, however, if you haven’t celebrated the Fourth of July in Chicago you’re truly missing out. This year, the fourth falls on a Thursday, which is perfect if your company is giving you a long weekend, or even just the day off. Thursdays are the best days to get your weekend started, and you’ll be able to do just that with all of these great Fourth of July events going on around the city!
Fireworks at Navy Pier
The Fourth of July is the best opportunity for you to catch the biggest fireworks show in the city! You’ll be able to enjoy an incredible pyrotechnics show synced to the score of patriotic music that takes place along the downtown lakefront. While the show doesn’t start until about 9:30 p.m. that night, you’ll want to make sure that you arrive early to score the best seats in the house. There will also be a variety of events taking place on the pier for the majority of the day, so plan accordingly and make sure you have enough time to park and get settled!
Grant Park Music Festival: An Independence Day Salute
This music festival is a Grant Park tradition and is a great event for the entire family to enjoy! Come to the lakefront park for an entire night filled with patriotic favorites including cheerful marches and classic patriotic anthems like 1812 Overture and Stars and Stripes Forever. Enjoy a night filled with friends, family, and music at the classic Chicago location of Millennium Park. With easy access to the park through the L Train and plenty of Uber/Lyft pick ups, this free concert goes from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Which gives you plenty of time to get to Navy Pier for the fireworks show too!
Fourth of July Parade
If you’re looking for a way to celebrate during the day, the Fourth of July parade is the perfect event for you! This family-friendly parade takes place at Independence Park in the Irving Park neighborhood. Enjoy seeing some of Chicago’s top entertainment during this two hour parade!
Take A Cruise
Boats, cocktails, and fireworks? There’s no better way to celebrate the birth of our nation than to see it in classic Chicago style! With plenty of options to choose from with the river or Lake Michigan, there truly some type of cruise for everyone. You’ll be able to get a full, unobstructed 360 degree view of the city’s best sights including the fireworks show! Most cruises last for a couple of hours and are complete with full-service bars. These events tend to fill up fast, so you’ll want to make sure you book your tickets soon!
