Things to Do in Chicago this Summer
Chicago is a city brimming with fun, especially during the summer. After a little bit of day drinking, activities from festivals to concerts illuminate Chicago’s summertime greatness. Below are some great summer activities to do after spending some time at the bar.
Summer Food Festivals
No city can beat Chicago’s summer festival season. Food festivals are everywhere and a great place to go after having a few drinks. During July there are an abundance of food festivals in Chicago, including the famous Taste of Chicago. The delicious selection of food at Taste of Chicago is complemented by music and entertaining activities for the whole family. Since 1980, it has been the nation’s premier outdoor food festival showcasing the diverse dining community of Chicago.
If you love barbeque then you’re in luck! From July 13-15th, the annual Windy City Smokeout will be happening to fulfill all your BBQ needs. Twenty of the world’s best pit masters serve up the finest BBQ, showing that there’s no shortage of smoky eats out there. From baby back ribs to pulled pork, this food festival will leave you wanting more. In August, you can also take part of the Food Bowl festival. Food Bowl showcases the best tastes and flavors of Chicago’s diverse neighborhoods. All of these festivals go beyond the menu and straight to the hearts of Chicago’s food-loving city.
Chicago is a cultural hub for music. After a drink, you can check out the Millennium Park Music Series select Mondays or Thursday, or attend one of the many Chicago music festivals. From July 20th – 22nd, you can experience the Pitch Fork Musical Festival that features 40 bands that are the best in new and emerging music. You can also take part in Lollapalooza from August 2nd – 5th. With eight stages and 170 bands from all over the world, including The Weeknd and Jack White! No matter where you turn there’s always a concert going on no matter what style of music you love.
Check Out a Movie in the Park
After a day of day drinking, take an Uber to unwind and watch a movie. The Chicago Park District’s annual lineup for Movies in the Parks is back with blockbuster hits and classics this summer. This year, the schedule includes over 200 screenings in parks across the city, including recent films like Wonder Woman, Black Panther and Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle. Who doesn’t want to watch a movie after a couple of beers?
